I am looking for 2 working students for the 2023 season. In exchange for your time helping me with horse chores and facility maintenance, I will share with you everything I know about horses that has taken me a lifetime to learn from my personal investment of countless hours of time & funds from many expert trainers in the horse industry in a variety of disciplines. You will have opportunities to handle and ride well trained horses who know their jobs. Depending on how fast you learn, your experience & agility, your ability to follow instruction & focus on safety, you may also be able to assist me in the care & training of horses and with riding lessons and camps. I do require that working students are not afraid to work hard, get dirty, and be able to work without direct supervision when performing duties that are not hands-on horse jobs. All duties that involve direct contact with horses or with assisting during lessons will be under my supervision for safety purposes. Being a working student in an equestrian business is not an easy position as you will be required to help with barn chores (which may include packing hay, cleaning pens, grooming, bathing, braiding, cleaning tack, moving horses to pasture, watering, weeding, mowing, etc.). It is not a babysitting position, so I require working students to have a good work ethic and be at least 14 years old. You may be required to work in adverse weather which may include the heat/sun and the rain/snow. I do try to schedule work around the more pleasant hours of the day, but that is not always possible as this is an outside job and horses need care 365 days of the year. You will need to have transportation to & from the facility, which is located 7 min past the hospital up on Carmi Mountain in Penticton BC. I am also in search of a working student for our Grand Forks location to help with preparation for our camps and clinics. I will need at least one working student to be available during the morning or day-time hours and one available for afternoon/evening shifts.
PM me on Facebook, give me a call or text at 250-442-7720 or send me your resume at venrose@telus.net. Tell me about yourself and your equestrian goals, previous experience and let's see if we're a good fit for each other. The ability to put in a good effort with a helpful attitude is more important than your previous equestrian experience in the industry as I can teach you the necessary skills if you are coachable. This position is ideal for a student looking to learn the ropes of the equestrian industry and possibly become a riding instructor in the future. I am certified to teach and test the Equine Canada Rider Levels program, which are the necessary pre-requisites for entry to the Equine Canada coaching evaluation program. For more information, see the working students section on the "Services" tab of my website.
